Welcome to LEAF’s Annual Guide to Canada’s Greenest Restaurants.
In past years, we have released this guide on Earth Day. This year, Earth Day was quite different, and overshadowed by Covid-19. Many of our members are facing unprecedented challenges, and forced to close or significantly change how they operate. In view of this, we delayed the release of this guide until we better understood the current situation.
2019-20 was an incredibly exciting year for LEAF, with another great year at the RC Show and an expansion into the E.U. With the upcoming launch of our Sustainable Foodservice Professional program, we are looking forward to empowering individuals and companies with important sustainability knowledge that will positively impact their work in the industry. 2020 also marks LEAF’s 10th year in operation, and something that we are incredibly proud of.
Now, in the midst of a pandemic, many have found time to reflect more meaningfully on our connections to each other and the planet. We saw the lowest emissions levels in decades, and heard stories of wildlife returning to areas they had long abandoned. As we get back to business and move into our “new normal” for 2020-2021, my hope is that we take the learnings with us, and continue to prioritize the health of each other and our planet in future decisions.
Now more than ever, we want to celebrate the incredible sustainability efforts and successes of our members and support our local businesses and sustainable foodservice industry.
As we each find ourselves spending more time at home, we encourage you to visit our members’ websites and support them however possible. As we move forward, LEAF will be here to support the industry as best we can. We hope you’ll join us.
